In 1982 I started working on the Canto-project, which would result in a series of 124 paintings, the last of which date from 1993. With this series I could for the first time explore the artistic contents of my true model (reality) on the basis of a humble can. Because within the series itself there emerged mini-series, that sometimes represented successive phases of an occurrence, I at last had the possibility to do something with the concepts time and space. Catcing these concepts within a single realistic painting is impossible, as we watch a single moment, a single situation. As a matter of fact, the Canto-project, which follows the ramblings of the can through my studio in the course of eleven years, is the first film that was painted with oil.
