Maria de Ruiter de Witt followed a number of master-classes with Sierk Schröder, and in 1992 the "Société des Pastellistes de France" appointed her "Maitre du Pastel". Favourite subjects of Maria are people in their daily lives, animals, flowers and portraits.
On the occasion Jan Pieter Glerum held a witty speech about all the monkey business going on in the world of modern art, and he expressed his satisfaction with the existence of a museum that focusses on art that has a certain "significance". The work of Maria truly bears witness of that.
