It's now almost two years that the museum and we seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth. That was actually almost the case, as the restart of our museum dragged its feet, to say the least. Perhaps that was caused by the heavy clay that we have here in the North, but – heavy though it is – it is very fertile soil indeed. Therefore, everytime we threatened to get stuck, we straightened our not so strong backs, repeatedly with the help of dear friends. Thus, slowly, the contours became visible of a museum that eventually rose again. In a monumental barn, a wooden cathedral, heavenly and worldly at the same time, almost twice as large and certainly three time as beautiful as our former museum. It's therefore high time for a sign of life and perhaps a renewed acquaintance. Thus we restart at full throttle, as we open with a jubilee exhibition: The Tenth Independent Realist Exhibition. Almost all artists that have every participated in this yearly exhibition of contemporary figurative and realistic art participate in this jubilee exhibition. But, as always, there are also a few new faces. No fewer than 102 renowned artists exhibit a total of more than 500 works of art, thus giving a fine cross section of “the state of the art.” A richly varied opening exhibition that no-one can afford to miss. And as always, on the occasion of the exhibition, a book/catalogue is published. “Realisten 2008” is the tenth volume in this series. The book has 222 pages, is full colour and has a hard cover. Of every participating artist it features two reproductions of their work. |
