The Mokum-Collection is an important collection of more than 100 works of art, built up by Dieuwke Bakker (1935-1984), founder of Galerie Mokum, the Amsterdam gallery that in the beginning of the sixties of the 20th century formed a first refuge for realistic art.

It’s beyond doubt that the Mokum-Collection is of great value. Dieuwke Bakker, founder of Galerie Mokum, had an excellent nose for good quality Dutch realistic art. She collected a lot of paintings, etchings, drawings, water colours and lithos of "her" artists, supporting them in the process. Dieuwke Bakker was 27 years old when she started Galerie Mokum, initially concentrating on magic and erotic realism. Rumour has it that she sometimes provoked some publicity by personally throwing a stone through the windows, thus inviting the press to publish a sort of juicy details. Be that as it may, from the very first day she defended her predominantly young artists. By the prominent way she did this, she not only stimulated the artists, but also brought a nearly disappeared form of art under the notice of the general public. Besides that, she organized exhibtions both at home and abroad, and she also compiled books. |

After her death the collection (which she had already christened the Mokum-Collection) became the legacy of the Mokum-Foundation, whose aim it is to exhibit the works to the general public. On May the 30th 2003 the board of the foundation decided to alter the name. The "Mokum Foundation" became: "Foundation Collection Dieuwke Bakker". The "Mokum Collection" became "Collection Dieuwke Bakker" with the subtitle: "Founder of Gallery Mokum". |

Lacking a regular exhibition centre, the collection lived a nomadic life and sometimes wasn’t on show at all. The foundation of Museum Møhlmann, and the fact that the painter and already knew many of the Mokum-artists, led to the foundation’s request to permanently exhibit the collection in the Museum & Gallery Rob Møhlmann. We didn’t hesitate for a moment and are very proud to have this excellent collection under our roof. |

Most works of the Mokum-Collection are permanently on display throughout the year. In the course of the year works are regularly swapped. Only during the yearly Independent Realists Exhibition the collection isn’t to be seen, as the exhibition takes up all available space. |
