3. The various studios: Des Présstraat

In the autumn of 1980 an opportunity arose to move to the Des Présstraat, in the south of Amsterdam. A tiny street in the neighbourhood of the Concertgebouw. There, in april 1982, the Canto-project was started.

Canto 7 shows the view from the window. The painter worked in the attic, where a former garret and coalshed had been converted into a studio. The accompanying painting "View of church and prison" shows the view from the back.

In the summer of 1984 it transpired that out neighours at number 10 were going to move. We managed to take over the rented appartment, which boasted a shower and a balcony.

Canto 38 shows something of the opposite side of the street and Canto 39 depicts the studio. Again a garret was converted, and the wall to the extra room was pulled down. Studio in the Des Présstraat
