2. The various studios: the beginning

Halfway through 1977 Rob Møhlmann moved to Amsterdam and during the first months he lived in a rather gloomy garret, at 210 Jan van Galenstraat. Here he painted a first daub-painting.

After the summer he started a course in drawing and handicraft, at a teacher training college. This as a compromise with his parents, who had little faith in his future as a painter. The course, however, turned out to be very experimental, and Møhlmann gave it up after six weeks. But in the meantime he had met his future wife, Laura, at the course. She too gave it up.

By the autumn of 1977 love had blossomed, and they decided to go and live together, that is to say that the painter shacked up with Laura at her place. The address was 277 Rustenburgerstraat. A room with a small kitchen formed the first studio, where the first serious works came into existence. "Sisley in the studio" (1978) is an early example. The view from the roof is to be seen in the painting "Perspective"
